WHILE some players hate the thought of a two-week break entering a championship series, Romeo Travis welcomed it.

The Magnolia import suffered a hamstring injury in the middle of the PBA Governors’ Cup semifinal series against Barangay Ginebra, though he played through the pain and score 50 points.

But thanks to the long respite, Travis said he was able to recover from that injury although it has not fully healed.

“Oh, the long break. I couldn’t play without the break,” Travis said. “It’s getting better. It’s not a hundred percent but it’s getting better.”

After scoring 50 points in Game Four against Ginebra, Travis had 29 points and 13 rebounds for Magnolia in its 100-84 victory in the finals series opener at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Travis was glad the long break was not able to affect this rhythm to start off the game. Still, even with his double-double performance, Travis said Game One was a team victory.

“Great team win. A lot of mistakes in their but overall, we played a great team game. We just can’t be complacent. Can’t be stuck on one game. It happened, it’s over. We need to focus on Game Two,” said Travis.

The Magnolia reinforcement though was not satisfied with how he ended the game.

“I started out hot. I made my first couple of shots. I just wanted to keep going. Ended up cold in the fourth. I think I missed my last five, six shots. That’s what I’m going to think off tonight – where I can be better late in the game. I felt like I kinda settled,” said Travis.
