IT was the defending PBA Governors Cup champion not playing like a champion.
Magnolia didn’t live up to its billing according to import Romeo Travis after seeing the Hotshots got beaten by Barangay Ginebra, 83-105, Sunday night in the showdown between the two rival ballclubs played before a crowd of 11,000 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
“Today we just didn’t have enough. Today we didn’t have a chance after the second half. The turnovers really gave them the momentum, we never got it back, we never got the stops,” said Travis after the Hotshots lost for the third straight game.
“Just too many unforced errors, breakdowns in coverages. Nobody really played well.”
But he was more than hard to himself after just shooting 6-of-17 from the field and committing five turnovers.
The former Best Import nonetheless finished with 17 points and 17 rebounds after returning from an ankle injury.
“I didn’t play well enough to give us a chance to win. The turnovers from me and I missed a lot of shots today that I normally will make. I didn’t have a good rhythm today. I guess that’s what happens when you stay out for 10 days and try to just play,” he said.
Romeo added his ankle is getting better now but would not use it as an excuse for the Hotshots’ sudden dip in the standings at 3-4.
As he tries to get back in the pink of health, Romeo said he will just have to deal with the cards dealt to him.
“I can only keep on working and keep trying and keep playing hard and live with the result,” he said. “If you live it all out there and play hard, you just have to live with the result.”
