A FEW months after being relegated to the reserve list, GlobalPort rookie Roi Sumang might find himself bound for a new home soon.
A source told SPIN.ph Sumang is now being offered to different PBA teams by GlobalPort, which is in the process of making some subtle moves to improve a team that failed to reach the Commissioner's Cup playoffs.
The former University of the East star has been offered to teams under the Manny V. Pangilinan umbrella, although the player's maximum rookie contract spread over three years has posed a problem in the negotiations.
News of a looming move all but rules out a return to the regular GlobalPort lineup for Sumang, a third-round pick who became the subject of a blind item by owner Mikee Romero who chided the rookie for a couple of errors in one game and threatened to send him to the D-League.
Another information reaching SPIN.ph revealed that the high-scoring former UAAP guard might be included in a four-man trade between Globalport and Mahindra that had been mutually approved by both teams.
The deal, reported on Friday, will have Globalport acquiring sweet-shooting guard Karl Dehesa and rookie Michael DiGregorio from Mahindra in exchange for Paolo Taha and Jonathan Uyloan.
Papers for the deal have yet to be sent to the Commissioner's Office.
"Isasama na siguro si Sumang dun sa Mahindra deal kasi nakuha naman nila yung gusto nila, si Karl Dehesa," said a source.
"Pero yung Dehesa, pwede pang gumalaw yan ha!" he added, hinting plans to ship the sweet-shooting Fil-Am guard to Ginebra.
