CALASIAO, Pangasinan – For all his shooting prowess, better believe it that Roger Pogoy hasn’t joined any Three-Point shootout contest in the past.
The PBA All-Star weekend would actually serve as his debut in long-range shooting competition.
“Sa buong buhay ko first time ko ito. Kahit college di ko pa na-try,” said Pogoy, considered one of the deadliest marksmen in the league today.
“Kahit sa ligang labas di ko na-try. Dito talaga ang first time.”
Just by looking alone at the roster of this year’s shootout participants in the side event of the All-Star weekend here was enough to bring fear in the heart of the TnT Katropa guard.
Two-time and defending champion James Yap leads this year’s cast that also has the likes of Marcio Lassiter, Matthew Wright, Mike Digregorio, Kevin Ferrer, and Baser Amer, among others.
“Kinakabahan nga ako. Hindi ko alam kung ano ang mangyayari,” said Pogoy.
The Three-Point shootout actually is just the starter for the shooting guard out of Far Eastern University.
After the long-range shooting contest on Saturday at the Calasiao Sports Complex, Pogoy will next suit up in the Rookies/Sophomores versus Juniors game.
The following day, he’ll play in the main All-Star game as part of the South team versus the North squad.
“Blessed lang ako na pinili akong makalaro sa lahat,” said Pogoy. “Lahat naman ng players gustung-gusto ito na makalaro sa All-Star, kasi ibang experience ito.”
And fatigues is the least of his concern.
“Magagaling naman yung mga kasama ko, at tsaka marami naman kami kaya ok lang,” said Pogoy.
