ANTIPOLO – Rodney Brondial did his best impersonation of the injured June Mar Fajardo as he crashed the boards with authority for San Miguel in a 123-109 rout of guest team Macau in its PBA Governors’ Cup debut on Tuesday night.
The veteran big man came through with a double-double of 25 rebounds and 10 points in a performance that made up for the absence of the 6-foot-10, nine-time MVP at the Ynares Center due to a hyper-extended elbow.

For good measure, Brondial also had seven assists, four steals, and was a perfect 5-of-5 from the field.
The figures more than satisfied lead deputy Peter Martin, who called the shots for the Beermen as head coach Leo Austria was out of commission.
“Ok naman ang ginawa ni Rodney 25 rebounds. Regular average day of June Mar, so we’ll take that,” said Martin. Fajardo led the league once again in rebounding among locals with an average of 16.1 boards in Season 50.

For Brondial, 35, it’s just a matter of making the most out of the opportunity being given to him especially with Fajardo sitting on the bench in street clothes.
“Biro ko nga kanina kailangan kong lumabas sa mundo ng halimaw kasi wala si June Mar,” he said smiling. “Ready-ready lang palagi kung ano yung opportunity na binibigay sa akin kinukuha ko lang naman."
