“Hopefully we can bounce back," said import Rob Dozier as Alaska plays its first game in the PBA Commissioner's Cup after a heartbreaking loss to San Miguel in the Philippine Cup finals.

ROB Dozier is raring to lead Alaska in the right side of a comeback this time as the Aces begin their PBA Commissioner’s Cup campaign on Friday against Blackwater at the Mall of Asia Arena.

The former Best Import returns for another tour of duty for the Aces, who are coming off on the wrong end of the greatest comeback in league history when they lost to San Miguel Beer in the Philippine Cup Finals after wasting a 3-0 lead.

“That’s part of sports. That’s the beauty of sports: anything can happen,” Dozier said in a short chat with Spin.ph after practice on the eve of the matchup that tips off at 4:15 p.m. “It was unfortunate that we couldn’t close it out, but we have this conference to do so.”

“Hopefully we can bounce back,” the 6-foot-9 beanpole added. “We just have to continue to stay together and I think we’ll be okay.”

Dozier knows a thing or two about winning a title, having led the Aces in their 2013 Commissioner’s Cup conquest, their last title in the league.

“We’ve done it together before with pretty much the same core of guys,” he said, believing this batch has more depth than the one he anchored to the title.

“I think we’re a deeper team than we were the last time I was here,” he said. “We just got to put it together.”

Dozier has been with the Aces for one month and a half, learning coach Alex Compton’s defense-oriented system.

“I’m anxious,” said the 30-year-old cager, a second-round pick in the 2009 NBA Draft. “I’m just learning the new system they have here. But it hasn’t been hard.”

“I’m ready to play," he added ahead of the matchup against MJ Rhett and the Elite, who are fresh from a 110-102 win over Mahindra last Sunday.
