RICO Maierhofer has apologized to LA Tenorio following an accidental clash of heads that left the veteran point guard with a nasty cut on the left eyebrow during the Ginebra-Globalport PBA Commissioner’s Cup match Wednesday night.
The lanky big man said his piece on Tenorio’s Instagram account the day after the game in an exchange of public messages that turned into a good-natured bantering between the two players.
Maierhofer started the short conversation by apologizing to Tenorio, adding, ‘sumundot pa ako, sensya na. minus pa pogi points mo.’
To which the Ginebra playmaker replied, ‘Ok lang bro!. Alam ko naman sinasadya mo! followed by three smiling emojis.
With the outcome of the match already beyond reach at the final 1:32 mark, Maierhofer tried to go for a steal against a dribbling Tenorio, leading to a clash of heads.
Contacted by SPIN.ph on Thursday, Tenorio said there was no need to have the cut stitched to close the wound.
“Hindi naman. Antay lang sumara, ok na ito,” he said.
Tenorio describes the cut as a little bit long but not too deep.
“Na head-on niya (Maierhofer). Sabi ko patapos na, natamaan pa ako,” he told media men after the game.
Maierhofer jokingly said later that it’s not the eye but Tenorio’s nose which he was actually targeting.
“Yung ilong talaga target ko, umilag ka lang ng konti, hahaha,” said the former La Salle center.
The one-time Ateneo point guard shot back, ‘Dapat yun na lang eh natuwa pa ako!’
The Kings won the game, 113-96, to break in the win column of the mid-season tournament after losing their debut game against Phoenix in Davao last week (94-91).
Tenorio was Ginebra’s top local scorer with 15 points on 6-of-11 shooting, had six rebounds, and four assists.
