COLUMBIAN coach Ricky Dandan rued the lack of defense the Dyip played in their lopsided loss to Magnolia in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup on Wednesday.

The Dyip trailed by as many as 38 points and lost to the Hotshots, 126-101, to drop to a 3-3 win-loss record. It was second largest margin the Dyip allowed after giving up 134 points against Alaska on May 4.

Dandan said his team wasn’t able to play a defensive game after allowing the Hotshots to shoot 68 percent from the field in the first half.

“They must realize, our team has to realize that we score our offense because of our defense. We cannot outshoot anyone in this league without playing defense, without making stops,” said Dandan.

“And that was evident against the Alaska game and today. Parang we played lang,” he added.

The Dyip were off to a good start this conference, winning against Blackwater, NLEX, and league-leader Rain or Shine.

Their losses, however, have been lopsided, having given up an average of 125 points and trailing by an average of 23 points per defeat.

Dandan said he will use the All-Star break to remind the players about their mindset for the conference.

“This break is heaven sent. We will be able to regroup. That’s what we are going to do to shift our mindset to have a better defensive mindset.

”Mostly, it’s all defense. We have to shift our mindset that we cannot be able to outscore anyone or get a chance against powerhouse teams if we can’t make stops,” said Dandan.
