FROM lead actor to supporting role.
Matinee idol Richard Gutierrez found himself exactly in such situation Sunday when he watched the do-or-die encounter between PBA Governors Cup defending champion Star and Globalport at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The change in status hardly bothered the star of such primetime programs as Mulawin, Sugo, Full House, among others, as Gutierrez said he was at the Big Dome to show support to good friend James Yap.
“Of course we're rooting for Star,” Richard shared to Spin.ph during the half time break. “We're here to support our good friend James Yap.”
Gutierrez was in the company of partner Sarah Lahbati and son Zion.
The Hotshots led by as much as 21 points, 39-18, in the second quarter before the Batang Pier made a furious second half run to briefly take the lead at 71-70, early in the fourth quarter.
But the reigning champions went on a 12-3 run to break a 74-deadlock for an 86-77 lead
A known sportsman who’s into basketball and martial arts, Gutierrez said the Hotshots just made the game exciting by allowing the Batang Pier to comeback only to foil them in the end, 101-94
“Baka pinapaganda lang 'yung laban para exciting,” he said.
Gutierrez had a wide smile on his face as the Hotshots officially clinched a berth in the semifinals of the season-ending meet.
“We're having a good time,” he concluded.
