VIRGILO ‘Baby’ Dalupan received an outpouring of birthday greetings as the legendary coach turned 92 on Monday.
Dalupan is considered as one of the greatest coaches in Philippine basketball, having won 15 titles in the PBA and several more in the UAAP when he coached his alma mater Ateneo and University of the East.
PBA legend Ricardo Brown led a bunch of former players and even fans in greeting ‘The Maestro’ on his birthday.
“Happy 92nd Birthday to my beloved Coach Baby Dalupan! Our experiences and memories together, and we indeed have so many, are forever lasting, Coach,” wrote Brown on his Facebook account.
In 1976, Dalupan led Crispa to a Grand Slam after the Redmanizers won all three conferences in the PBA that year. He actually won six straight titles beginning with the 1975 All-Philippine Cup until the 1977 Open Conference.
After Crispa, Dalupan also coached Great Taste where he handled Brown when he won the 1985 MVP award.
“For those of us players who had the privilege to play for you and know you on a personal level, and for the millions of fans who admired you through the years, let us all never forget 'The Maestro' and his greatness. Happy Birthday and God Bless, Coach. Love you always!” said Brown.
A book about Dalupan is set to be launched on Monday night at the Ateneo campus. Dalupan and his family are expected to grace the event.
