CHOT Reyes admitted he has no idea yet on what’s in store for Gilas Pilipinas as it now looks forward to the Fiba-World Cup in Spain next year.
Reyes said he conditioned the minds of the entire team not to look beyond the 27th Fiba-Asia Championship that came to a smashing close on Sunday night at the Mall of Asia Arena.
“Right now, kailangan pa naming mag-usap ni Boss MVP (Manny V. Pangilinan) para gumawa ng plano kung ano pa ang mangyayari sa future,” said Reyes moments after the national team bowed to Iran, 85-71, in their gold medal match.
“Talagang ang paningin namin hanggang August 11 lang.”
The outspoken coach said he wants to savor first the runner-up finish achieved by his team – the highest attained by the country in the biennial meet since the Northern Consolidated Corp. squad ruled the 1986 edition of the Fiba-Asia when it was still known as the Asian Basketball Championship.
Reyes also refused to answer whether the composition of the team will be altered for the 2014 world cage meet.
“Maski bukas hindi ko pa alam ang mangyayari, kung ano ang schedule toward the world championship kasi dinisiplina namin ang pag-iisip ng team na hanggang August 11 lang,” he said.

But Reyes praised the effort of his players.
“In the end yun ang storya ng Gilas, na hindi ka bibitaw, basta magsasama-sama kayong lahat, magkakapit-bisig, then a lot of great things can be achieved,” Reyes stressed.
