RAIN or Shine rookie Rey Nambatac is eager to repay the trust of the Elasto Painters management after signing a three-year, near-maximum contract less than two weeks before the PBA Philippine Cup unfolds.

"Gagawin ko yung best ko (para mapakita) na deserving akong ma-pick ng Rain or Shine sa seventh overall," said Nambatac after Rain or Shine completed a come-from-behind 96-89 win over NLEX on Tuesday in a PBA preseason pocket tournament.

The 5-foot-10 guard out of Letran said he didn't expect to be offered a ‘close-to-max’ contract in a team that is filled with some of the league's finest guards.

"Sobrang nakaka-overwhelm kasi ine-expect lang namin ng agent ko, bibigyan lang kami ng two years e. So nung nandun kami sa office ng Rain or Shine, nagulat kami kasi three years yung binigay sakin," he said.

"Ibig sabihin, malaki yung tiwala nila sa akin and meron silang ine-expect sa akin na talagang makakatulong ako sa team," he added. "For me naman, di ko sasayangin yung opportunity na binigay sa akin ng Rain or Shine."

The 24-year-old guard vowed to waste no time in proving he deserves his spot in a loaded Rain or Shine backcourt.

"Sa team na ito, maraming guards kaya para sa akin, kailangan ko i-earn yung minutes ko, pagsikapan ko para masabi kong fit talaga ako sa team," he said.
