REY Guevarra has denied that he’ll be playing for the Muntinlupa Cagers in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL), saying that he doesn’t have any plans of leaving the Phoenix Fuel Masters.
Reports surfaced that Guevarra was taking his high-flying act to the new league a few days after ruling the PBA’s Slam Dunk title for the fourth time. His name was also included in the lineup of the Cagers which was released by the league last Wednesday, causing further confusion.
Guevarra, however, insisted he’s under contract with the Fuel Masters until November and that he has no plans of leaving the squad where he was reunited with his college coach in Louie Alas.
“Wala yun. Hindi totoo yun. Nagulat nga rin ako sa write-up na hinihintay ko daw sila e,” said Guevarra. “May kontrata ako dito. November ako, end of November. Dalawang conference pa 'yun.”
Guevarra admitted the Cagers reached out to him about the possibility of playing for them, but the 31-year-old forward said he was very clear in saying no.
“Nakipag-usap sila na gusto nila akong maglaro dun pero sinabi ko na na hindi ako maglalaro dun.”
