REY Guevarra has gained another chance to prove that there’s more to him than his dunks and good looks as he cracked the roster of Phoenix for the PBA Philippine Cup.
Trying out since failing to get a renewal from Kia, the three-time Slam Dunk champion has been signed to a one-conference contract by the Fuel Masters - his seventh team entering his eighth year in the league.
“Syempre thankful na mabigyan pa rin ng chance makalaro,” Guevarra told SPIN.ph after practice on Friday.
The 6-foot-3 wingman reunites with former Letran coach and current Phoenix mentor Louie Alas, fellow Knights star RJ Jazul, and Squires teammate JC Intal.
“Syempre masaya kasi sila 'yung makakasama, parang at home ka kaagad,” Guevarra said.
However, Guevarra, who turned 31 last month, will have to prove he belongs.
“It remains to be seen kung anong maibibigay niya,” Alas said.
And Guevarra is eager to repay Alas’ and management’s faith.
