PUREFOODS Star governor Rene Pardo said former Ginebra coach Jeffrey Cariaso is welcome to rejoin the team anytime, but admitted the decision is down to San Miguel Corp. officials and Hotshots coach Tim Cone.
Cariaso, a former Cone assistant at Purefoods, served as Ginebra coach for two conferences before he was replaced by Ato Agustin during the team’s first day of practice on Monday at Green Meadows gym.
“Personally, coach Jeff, he has a spot with us if ever but we don’t know kung saan siya (Cariaso) ilalagay (ng SMC management),” Pardo told Spin.ph on Tuesday.
The amiable Purefoods executive said Cone will have a say if he wants to bring back Cariaso to his team of assistants.
“Siyempre, depende kay coach Tim (Cone) iyan.”
Pardo said officials of SMC, which owns the franchises of Ginebra, Purefoods and San Miguel Beer, have yet to make an official communication to them regarding the 42-year-old Cariaso’s next destination.
SMC head of basketball operations Robert Non said on Monday Cariaso and former chief assistant Olsen Racela are technically still with Ginebra.
Before moving to Ginebra prior to the start of last season’s Governors Cup, Cariaso was part of Cone’s original team of deputies when the multi-titled PBA coach assumed the reins at Purefoods before the start of the 2012 season.
Cariaso was an integral part of Purefoods’ first four PBA championships under Cone, including last season’s Commissioner’s Cup, before joining Ginebra.
Cariaso’s slot has since been filled by retired PBA playmaker and longtime TV commentator Jason Webb.
