NOT just one but two Pacquiaos are expected to make the jump to the PBA after Rene Pacquiao followed in the footsteps of famous cousin and Kia Motors coach Manny Pacquiao by making himself available for the coming Annual Rookie Draft three weeks from now.
Listed at 6-foot-5 in the league’s partial list of rookie applicants for the August 24 event at Robinsons Place in Ermita, the younger Pacquiao played most of his basketball down South before suiting up for Hog’s Breath in last year’s D-League Foundation Cup.
Though seldom-used and still a little bit raw, the 27-year-old former Southwestern University forward is expected to be picked by Kia in the second round of the draft.
Manny Pacquiao will be Kia’s first round pick, team manager Eric Pineda declared two weeks ago.
Manny and Rene Pacquiao are among the 46 rookie applicants who have turned in their applications and are looking to land a spot in the pro league’s roster coming season.
Among the first-round prospects are Fil-foreign guards Stanley Pringle and Chris Banchero, former Sinag national player and Adamson gunner Jericho Cruz, along with San Beda’s Semerad twins David and Anthony.
Key players of multi-titled NLEX Warriors team including Kevin Alas, Garvo Lanete, Jake Pascual, Matt Ganuelas and Ronald Pascual have yet to file their applications pending their meeting with the team’s big boss Manny V. Pangilinan next week.
Here is the official list of applicants for the rookie draft as of Friday:
