    Rejuvenated Magnolia back in playoff frame after blowing past Columbian

    MAGNOLIA claimed its second straight victory on Wednesday night, beating Columbian, 109-83, in the PBA Philippine Cup at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.

    The Hotshots got right back in the playoff picture following their first winning streak of the conference. The team started the campaign at 0-3 (win-loss) but is now in seventh place with a 3-4 record.

    Magnolia led by as many as 28 points in the wire-to-wire victory as Columbian slipped to eighth place with a 4-6 win-loss slate.

    “I think it’s all about our desire and will to win,” said Magnolia coach Chito Victolero.

    “Pinagusapan kasi namin ‘yung importance ng game na ‘to. ‘Yung Columbian, gunning for a playoff din. Kami ganun din. Importante ‘yung effort at aggressiveness na ibibigay namin for this game.”

    Ian Sangalang contributed 16 points and six rebounds while Mark Barroca had 14 points and six assists for the Hotshots, who stretched the lead to 75-57 at the end of the third quarter and never looked back.

    Barroca's three-pointer set off the Hotshots' breakaway, 64-52, after trailing by four points, 56-52.

    Rashawn McCarthy had 19 points, while Jackson Corpuz had 12 points and 11 rebounds for the Dyip.
