DON'T look now, but former Talk 'N Text import Donnell Harvey is suddenly in the frame for the Brgy. Ginebra job after the Kings' disappointing debut in the PBA Commissioner's Cup with Herbert Hill.
Harvey has two more games left with also-ran Tianjin Ronggang Steel in the Chinese Basketball Association, and he has expressed interest in returning to the PBA to take care of "unfinished business" once he wraps up his commitment on the mainland.
Talk 'N Text still owns the signing rights to the import who led the team to a runner-up finish in last year's Commissioner's Cup, but team officials who spoke on condition of anonymity revealed Ginebra is looking to enlist the 6-8 rebounding demon.
Talk that Harvey is indeed bound for Ginebra grew when the import, who spent the CBA's Chinese New Year break in the country, showed up to watch the Kings' game on Sunday night trying to be as inconspicuous as possible, wearing a cap and the hood of his jacket over his head (see picture).
Sought for comment by Spin.ph, the 32-year-old Shellman, Georgia native explained that he was only watching the game to relax as he is scheduled to return to China on Monday morning.
The five-year NBA veteran said a return stint with Talk 'N Text is his priority, but admitted he is also “open to explore other options."
“I miss playing here in the PBA. I just fell short of my aim the last time," he added. “I just want to win that PBA championship.
"If I won’t have another tour of duty with them (Talk n’ Text), I hope they can allow me to explore other opportunities.”
Harvey's name has cropped up in social media sites of Ginebra fans after Hill's sub-par debut in the Ginebra's 74-70 loss to Air21 on Sunday night. Hill finished with 17 points on 7-of-24 shooting and went 0-of-11 in the first quarter, earning the moniker 'Nothing Hill' from some fans.
“I know him," Harvey said while pointing at Hill, “I used to work out with him."
Harvey’s agent, Sheryl Reyes, bared that there are offers for Harvey from other teams but insisted that she is still talking to the Texters.
“They have the rights of Harvey, and we are hoping they will tender him an offer. Or kung hindi naman, maybe they can allow him to show his worth in other ways," the female agent said.
“We’ll see how it goes," she added.
