MERALCO has formally obtained Raymond Almazan after the PBA Commissioner's Office approved the trade with Rain or Shine on Tuesday.
Meralco team manager Paolo Trillo confirmed the trade that sent Almazan to the Meralco camp in exchange for 2019 and 2021 first-round draft pick was approved shortly after the Bolts played a tune-up game against Alaska Tuesday.
The 2019 draft will actually occur in 2020 as the current season of the league will extend next year.
With the deal approved, Meralco finally gets a legitimate big man it has been longing for in the 6-foot-8 Almazan, who has played for the Elastopainters since his rookie year in 2013.
Almazan’s stint with Rain or Shine, however, has become rocky amid talk of a rift with coach Caloy Garcia.
Almazan returned and played for the Elastopainters in the Philippine Cup but missed a few games due to an injury.
