RAIN or Shine continued to find its mark on the road as it rolled past Magnolia, 101-95, in their PBA Philippine Cup matchup on Saturday night at the Calasiao Sports Complex in Pangasinan.

The Elasto Painters zoomed to an early lead and were on the driver’s seat all-game long as they built a cushion big enough to shrug off a late rally by the Hotshots in the Petron Saturday Special.

Raymond Almazan showed he's right at home with ROS, sparking the early surge by scoring the game’s first seven points and finishing with 23 markers on 9-of-11 shooting, six boards, two blocks, and one assist.

James Yap put up a solid game against his former team with 13 points, including two triples, five boards, three assists, one block, and zero turnover in almost 23 minutes off the bench as the E-Painters notched a third straight win and fifth overall in eight games to grab solo fourth spot.

The Hotshots, on the other hand, absorbed their second straight loss and third in nine games to drop to third place – instead of claiming the solo lead as they missed the services of former ROS star Paul Lee, who suited up, but is still apparently recovering from a high ankle sprain.

The E-Painters led be as many as 21 points, 67-46, halfway through the third quarter, and were still ahead by 16 points, 96-80, after a Yap three-point play with five minutes left, but saw the Hotshots claw back and pull to within seven points, 100-93, after a Jio Jalalon floater with 1:24 to go, only to fall short.

Gabe Norwood and Maverick Ahanmisi ran the ROS offense and finished with 12 points apiece, with former adding seven boards, one assist, and one steal, and the latter chipping in eight rebounds, three assists, and one steal.

Ramos delivered a splendid showing for the Hotshots with 27 points, built around four triples, two boards, one assist, and one steal, without committing a single error in almost 28 minutes off the bench that went to waste.
