RAYMOND Almazan finally played for Rain or Shine for the first time in a long while, but it didn't take long.
Almazan sat out most of the PBA Governors’ Cup last season after going AWOL and missed the first two games of the ongoing Philippine Cup due to a sprained ankle.
In his first game back, the former Letran standout played no more than three minutes and scored two points in Rain or Shine's 111-99 loss to Blackwater on Wednesday night.
Almazan later said he could've played longer as his ankle sprain has healed, but trusts Rain or Shine coach Caloy Garcia’s decision to manage his minutes.
“Kaya ko na mas longer minutes. Siyempre, kababalik ko lang sa practice at sa game. Iniisip siguro ni coach ‘yung kalagayan ko. Baka ma-overwhelm ako.
Garcia said he wants to preserve Almazan for the lengthy season ahead.
“I don’t want to gamble him. At the end of the day, we want him healthy throughout the season,” said Garcia.
Almazan expects to play longer - and better - when Rain or Shine returns to action against San Miguel on Friday at the Ynares Center.
