RAYMOND Aguilar refused to talk about the final second incident that earned him the ire of Ginebra coach Tim Cone in the team’s 86-76 win over Meralco on Wednesday night in the PBA Philippine Cup.
“No comment” was the curt reply of the Ginebra forward when he was approached to get his side on the last-second shot he made with the outcome of the match already settled in favor of the Kings.
But a Ginebra insider said Aguilar was quick to apologize to the entire organization inside the team dugout at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
“Nag-sorry siya after the team prayer,” said the team member.
The apology, according to the insider, was met by a wild chorus of jeers from his teammates.
Aguilar had just been sent in by Cone along with rookie Teytey Teodoro off a timeout with 42 seconds left and Ginebra leading, 84-73, when he made the garbage-time basket.
Cone was naturally left furious at Aguilar.
“I am absolutely steaming. I make a big deal about that about not doing it to us, and then I have a guy that does it. I’m just steaming mad,” said Cone in his post-game interview.
Meralco counterpart Norman Black said he was hardly affected by Aguilar’s action.
“I have no reaction to that. I’m sure coach Tim is upset about it, but I don’t take things personal. I’m a little bit different to coach Tim,” he said.
