RASHAWN McCarthy is hoping to move on from his off-court issues as he sets his sights solely on the court and fulfilling his goal to make it to the PBA.

Last August, the PBA D-League standout was sued for acts of lasciviousness and momentarily detained after an incident with a female pilot in a luxury bar in Taguig.

But the 26-year-old PBA aspirant is glad to get it out of the way as he shifted his focus to the regular draft on Sunday at Robinsons Place Manila where he could be among the top picks.

“The case has been settled,” McCarthy told Spin.ph after Day One of the Combine on Wednesday. “The charges are going to be dropped. I just have to meet with the judge one more time. We settled it outside of court.”

“I just want to put that behind me and focus on what’s ahead – on Sunday, hopefully, when they call my name,” he added, hesitant to answer questions, referring instead his lawyer due to the sensitivity of the matter.

“It’s a process that we have to go through to get where we want to get to,” said the former AMA Titans star, who traces his Pinoy roots to La Union.

The penultimate part of the process is Day Two of the Combine on Thursday after admitting he hardly made a good first impression on Wednesday.

“No, not really. I don’t even know if I’m in the Top Ten for the drills, but I tried,” McCarthy said.

“Playing is different than the drills,” said the all-around playmaker, who produced stellar numbers across the board in the D-League. “Based on playing in the D-League, I think I did well. I showed well enough for myself.”

After the D-League season ended, McCarthy stayed in the gym and kept honing his skills.

And the hard work continues once he gets drafted.

“That’s when the real work starts,” McCarthy said. “There’s no time to rest. Ball is life.”
