COLUMBIAN Dyip may already be down and out in the race for a playoffs berth in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup.

That doesn’t mean the team will just roll over and die the rest of the way, especially when up against a team like San Miguel Beer.

Rashawn McCarthy said the Dyip’s 134-132 overtime win over the skidding Beermen Sunday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum was a testament that the team can ‘compete at this level.’

“We just got to be patient and trust each other more on the court and continue to learn and build,” said the Fil-Am guard.

McCarthy finished with 27 points including 21 in the second half and the overtime period. He also had 14 rebounds and seven assists in 49 minutes of play without committing a single error.

But the Dyip’s second win over the Beermen this season, was not just all about him, according to McCarthy, who was part of the San Miguel-Columbian Dyip trade that brought big man Christian Standhardinger to the SMC group.

“It wasn’t just me. CJ (Perez) played well, Lester (Prosper) played well. And we’re able to get over the hump today,” said McCarthy.

It was only the second win in eighth outings for the Dyip, who are out of the playoffs picture for the second straight conference.

For McCarthy though, beating a powerhouse squad like San Miguel is a good morale-booster for the team as it caps its campaign in the conference heading to the season-ending Governors Cup.

“We just want to build some momentum even though it’s a tough road for us to get into the playoffs. I think we can build off this win,” he added.
