IT was in the words of rookie Raphael Banal a 'very special moment' for the entire family.
Wednesday night saw the young Banal go up against elder brother Gabriel during the Blackwater-GlobalPort game in the PBA Philippine Cup at the San Juan Arena.
Raphael not only outscored Gab but also put one over him as the Elite blasted the Batang Pier, 99-91, for their fourth win in six outings.
It was sort of a reversal role for the Banal brothers since Gab had beaten Raphael in their first and only other meeting in the past as grade schoolers.
"Once lang kami naglaban officially, grade school pa," recalled the younger Banal after the game. "Tapos ito dito pa kami naglaban sa PBA so unexpected talaga.
"Very exciting and very special (sa amin)."
From the time they were kids, Raphael said Gab would always beat the crap out of him.
"I think kasi dahil kuya siya, kaya hindi siya nagpapatalo," said the top pick during the recent regular rookie draft with a big laugh.
Not this time though, on the big stage and with the stakes higher.
"Pero at least nakuha namin yung panalo ngayon," said Raphael, who had five points in eight minutes of play to the two points and nine minutes of action by his older brother.
Unfortunately, father Joel Banal, the former PBA player and coach, was not around to watch the rare match-up.
"Yung family kasi namin sa States dumating so nilabas muna nila. Pero nanood naman sila sa television," Ael said.
Any advice given by his father before the game?
"The usual stuff lang na just have fun," he said.
The Banal brothers truly had one.
