STRICT security is set to be enforced in every Gilas Pilipinas practice after Talk `N Text star Ranidel de Ocampo lost his iPhone 5 to petty thieves.
“Nadale ako,” rued De Ocampo after the incident that happened during the national team's practice last Monday at the Philsports Arena.
De Ocampo and security personnel at the venue suspect a teenager posing as a fan took the phone from his bag which he left on the bench while the Gilas practice was in progress.
“Siya lang ang lumapit dun eh. Pagala-gala siya. Siguro nakita niya kung saan ko sinaksak (`yung phone) kaya sumalisi,” said the 6-foot-5 Talk 'N Text forward.
But De Ocampo no longer bothered to file charges against the perpetrator, saying it will only be a futile effort.
“Hindi na rin naman mababawi `yun, saan mo pa makikita `yung bata,” he said.
De Ocampo, who is now using a borrowed Blackberry, said it was not the stolen unit that made him sulk but the contact numbers and documents filed in the iPhone that he had lost.
“Sayang `yung mga pictures ko run. Andun pa naman `yung nag-bike ako for the first time ng malayo sa Bataan. Yan tuloy mapipilitan akong ulitin,” the Tanza, Cavite pride said in jest.
As a result of the incident, Gilas management and venue personnel will be left with no choice but to stop the practice of allowing guests and fans to roam freely during the team's practices.
“Automatic na yun. Tiyak maghi-higpit ang security saka management. May certain area na lang siguro ngayon para sa mga fans at bisita,” said De Ocampo.
