RANIDEL de Ocampo offered no excuses following Talk ‘N Text’s embarrassing 86-109 defeat to San Miguel Beer at the start of their PBA Philippine Cup best-of-seven semifinal series on Friday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The 6-foot-5 De Ocampo was just one of the few bright spots for the Tropang Texters, who went cold during the last four minutes of the first half that allowed the Beermen to pull away behind a 22-2 run.
“Talo eh, ganun naman yun eh, bawi na lang kami. Eh maganda din ang depensa ng San Miguel kaya ganun,” said De Ocampo, who topscored for the Tropang Texters with 16 points.
Unlike their initial meeting this season that saw Talk ‘N Text escape with a 107-101 win, De Ocampo said the Beermen’s coaching staff led by Leo Austria did an excellent job scouting their weaknesses.
“Mas handa sila (Beermen) eh. Napag-aralan nila kami. Eh yung laban namin nung eliminations, dikit lang 'yun eh. Sa huiling minuto na ang panalo naming dun, pero dito, talagang talo kami,” he added.
Being one of the shortest teams in the league, the veteran Talk ‘N Text forward said he’s still glad that they have enough time to make the adjustments in the hope of tying the series this Sunday.
“Maigi na iyung series kesa knockout agad, kasi kjung ganun, wala ka ng chance makabawi. So ngayon, kailangan naming mag-hustle at dagdagan pa yung effort namin,” said the Gilas Pilipinas mainstay.
The Tropang Texters were outrebounded, 56-39 by the Beermen, who also took advantage of Talk ‘N Text’s 12 turnovers for 19 points.
