TROY Rosario's hot shooting from beyond the arc has caught the attention of arguably the country’s best stretch-4.
Ranidel de Ocampo has been greatly impressed with his Tropang TNT teammate to the point of anointing the rookie forward as his successor once he retires from the national team.
“Sa nakikita ko kasi, isa sa pwedeng pumalit sa akin sa Gilas ng stretch-four, si Troy talaga,” De Ocampo admitted after the Texters’ 107-92 win over Ginebra in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup on Wednesday night.
Rosario was on target against the Gin Kings as he torched them with five three-pointers en route to matching his career-high 22 points along with four boards in 34 minutes.
The 6-foot-6 combo forward out of National University was, of course, flattered by the compliment of his Gilas teammate.
“Nakakataba ng puso kasi nakikita niya yung effort ko na mag-improve tsaka syempre isa sa idol mo ang nagsabi sa iyo nun,” he said.
After all, Rosario patterns his game after that of De Ocampo as well as another Gilas teammate in Marc Pingris.
“Bago pa ako mag-PBA, silang dalawa yung tinitingnan ko palagi,” said last year’s second overall pick, who lists Dirk Nowitzki – another stretch-4, and LaMarcus Aldridge as his idols in the NBA.
