PRIOR to the game against NorthPort on Wednesday, Blackwater coach Bong Ramos eluded questions about Friday’s match against Barangay Ginebra on Friday, saying he was focused on the match against the Batang Pier.
It turned out the match was exactly the preparation the Elite need as they face the two-time reigning champion on Friday.
The Elite earned their best start in franchise history when they beat NorthPort, 113-111, on Wednesday at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum. They tied Ginebra for the lead in the team standings with a 3-0 record.
“Dami nagtanong sa akin tungkol sa Ginebra. Ayokong isipin ang Ginebra. Let’s not focus on Ginebra. Let’s focus on NorthPort,” said Ramos after beating NorthPort on Wednesday.
“Deceiving ‘yung zero wins nila. Why? Nandiyan na si Pringle at Anthony. They have a big impact sa team. Tapos ‘yung import nila nakaka-adjust na. Isipin mo 5-of-5 ata siya sa first quarter,” Ramos said.
Blackwater eventually won the game despite NorthPort’s hot start as the Elite came back from 18 points down to beat the Batang Pier by two points.
Ramos said the comeback win was exactly what Blackwater needed as the Elite go up against Ginebra on Friday.
“Nilagay kami sa sitwasyon na building of character and test of character. Kailangan namin ‘yun going to Ginebra,” said Ramos.
“Nasa desire ng puso. I can feel na kaya, pero we have to work hard,” said Ramos.
