RAJKO Toroman was left in shock on Wednesday when he was informed that he has been fired as active consultant by Barako Bull, less than a year after joining the PBA ballclub.
The former Gilas Pilipinas coach confirmed the development to Spin.ph but refused to divulge anything more other than the fact that he didn't see the pink slip coming.
"I don't want to talk about it. It's the decision of management," said the Serb, who has a contract that runs until February.
Sources said Toroman still presided over the Energy Cola's practice on Wednesday morning with Bong Ramos, who is the designated head coach but in reality is only second in command to the Serb.
Pressed on the probable reasons for his exit, Toroman said: "Just go talk to management."
Toroman took charge at Barako for two conferences after his departure from Petron, leading the Energy Cola to the quarterfinals of the last Governors Cup where they lost to Meralco.
As news of Toroman's sudden exit spread, sources have told Spin.ph that Leo Austria, coach of San Miguel's ABL team, and Petron manager Siot Tanquingcen are among those being considered for the job.
Another source has confirmed that Koy Banal, one of Gee Abanilla's assistant coaches at Petron, is also set to move to the George Chua-owned ballclub.
The former Iran coach said he has a final meeting with Barako Bull management on Thursday.
"I don’t know what they plan to do, and I don’t know any plans as well as of the moment. I will have to talk first with management,” he added.
On the other hand, Austria denied any knowledge of his transfer to Barako Bull to succeed Toroman.
“Wala akong alam about that na ililipat ako ng Barako Bull,” Austria said when reached by Spin.ph for comment.
“Naririnig ko lang yan nung (Governors Cup) Finals, at nagugulat nga ako dahil nababanggit ang pangalan ko.”
