COACH Yeng Guiao will be going more to import Rick Jackson when Rain or Shine lock horns with dangerous Globalport in Friday’s opener of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
With Jackson finally giving the Elasto Painters a potent threat at the post, Guiao said he intends to pound the ball more inside against the Batang Pier.
“We’d look to get the ball in our import’s hands deep in the lane to create some matchup problems and hope he is able to assert himself,” said Guiao going to the 4:15 p.m. encounter.
“If they double or sag on him, then we kick out to our shooters and hope they hit their shots from the outside.”
Rain or Shine opened the conference with a loss to Talk ‘N Text before bouncing back with a 96-91 win over NLEX last Wednesday.
With Jackson playing his back against the basket, the Elasto Painters rained the Road Warriors with a barrage of three-pointers, going 10-of-30 from beyond the arc.
But Jackson is expected to find a match up in Globalport counterpart CJ Leslie, who is expected to bounce back after struggling through food poisoning during the team’s 83-70 loss to Purefoods last week.
The lean-but-mean Leslie is averaging 29 points and 11 rebounds for Globalport, which carries an identical 1-1 record with Rain or Shine.
