RAIN or Shine shrugged off a slow start to frustrate Talk ‘N Text, 88-73, on Saturday in a PBA Governors’ Cup road game at the University of St. La Salle Coliseum in Bacolod City.

The Elasto Painters overhauled an early double-digit deficit behind their trademark running game en route to notching the blowout victory in a rematch of the Commissioner’s Cup Finals two months ago.

Rain or Shine registered its first winning streak in the season-ending conference and sent the Tropang Texters tumbling to a third straight loss that put the two teams level with a 3-4 win-loss card.

It was a measure of vengeance for the Elasto Painters, who fell short against the eventual champion Tropang Texters in a grueling best-of-seven midseason tournament title series that went the distance.

Wendell Mckines, the Elasto Painters’ undersized import, stood tall anew by finishing with 28 points on 12-of-19 shooting, 16 boards, three assists, and two steals, while fit-again Jeff Chan and Raymond Almazan added 10 apiece.

Jericho Cruz and Jonathan Uyloan provided the spark off the bench as the wingmen combined for 16 points for the Elasto Painters, who went down by as many as 15 points early in the second quarter, before making a big push to complete a stunning 30-point turnaround.

Credit that to the Elasto Painters’ run-and-gun game as they outscored the Tropang Texters in fast-break points, 16-3.

Rain or Shine’s defense was also a major factor as it forced the opposition to 21 turnovers that translated into 19 points and limited the losers to 30 points in the last two quarters, while scoring 52.

The Elasto Painters prevailed despite Paul Lee playing sparingly in the second half after the star guard missed all his three attempts and wound up scoreless in six minutes in the first two quarters.

Jayson Castro, one of only three Tropang Texters who scored in double figures, knocked down a top-of-the-key triple to cut the deficit to 73-67, before the Elasto ainters unleashed a 15-6 salvo that took the spark out of TNT.
