MONTALBAN, Rizal – Rain or Shine got its PBA 50th Season Commissioner’s Cup campaign going by beating Macau, 116-109, on Saturday at the Ynares Center II.
Jaylen Johnson had 29 points and 24 rebounds in an all-around effort by the Elasto Painters import in their first game of the new conference.
Rain or Shine had a shaky start, even trailing by as many as 12 points but regained its bearings to send the Black Knights to their second loss in as many outings.
The former Korean Basketball League campaigner also dished out six assists, two steals, and one block to put Rain or Shine in the win column.
“Just the numbers themselves justify Jaylen’s value to the team,” said Rain or Shine coach Yeng Guiao.
Adrian Nocum finished with 19 points, five rebounds, four assists, and four steals, and Jhonard Clarito had 16 points and nine rebounds in the win.
Phoenix Shackelford topscored for Macau with 25 points while also contributing seven rebounds, eight assists, three steals, and one block but his effort fell short.
Macau was already up, 53-41, late in the second half but couldn’t hang on to the lead.
