RAIN or Shine can’t seem to get enough of overseas training this year.
Settling for local camps in past offseasons, the Elasto Painters embark on their second trip abroad this year, heading to the Middle East after going to Australia for a one-week training camp last month.
The Painters leave for Bahrain on Wednesday, facing Nuwaidrat, a club team which RoS assistant coach Mike Buendia handled in 2004, in an exhibition on Thursday, before taking on the Bahrain national team the next day.
The perennial PBA contenders then travel to Kuwait, where they will play a still-undetermined club next Wednesday.
“Yun ang preparation namin,” Painters assistant coach Caloy Garcia said on Tuesday after the team’s tune-up game against Mahindra at Nega gym.
Garcia, who called the shots in the Painters’ rout of the Enforcers, said coach Yeng Guiao will handle the squad in Bahrain, before the top deputy takes over in Kuwait.
“Na-invite kami (sa Bahrain at Kuwait),” Garcia said. “We asked permission from management, pumayag naman. Para maiba naman.”
“At least we were able to have a tune-up against Kia before we left para at least nakita namin what we had to adjust sa tawagan,” he added. “So far naman, naka-adjust naman 'yung mga players. May mga minor lapses lang.”
