RAIN or Shine practices happen come rain or shine, right?
No thanks to the monsoon rains spawned by typhoon Maring, the practice of Rain or Shine as well as those of other ballclubs both pro and amateur had to be cancelled on Monday.
“Binaha kasi yung lugar na panggagalingan nung ibang players namin. Kaunti lang nakarating sa gym … kaya na-cancel na rin,” said Rain or Shine team manager Boy Lapid.
Only import Arizona Reid, Ryan Arana, Beau Belga and some members of the coaching staff managed to show up for practice. Even coach Yeng Guaio failed to make it because he had to attend to his constituents in the first district of Pampanga where he is a first-term representative.
Lapid, however, bared that they will implement a ‘rain or shine’ approach to their practice Tuesday.
“Hindi na kami pwede mag-skip bukas kasi may laro na kami sa Friday … Petron pa ang kalaban,” added the amiable team manager, who bared that they already gave their players a break last Sunday.
The Alaska Aces also were also affected by the rains.
Though they did push through with afternoon drills at the Gatorade Hoops Center, moist on the wooden floor prevented the Aces from undergoing rigid training exercises.
“Natuloy yung practice namin, kaso pinag-ingat mga players. Kasi madulas ang sahig,” said Alaska Aces assistant coach Louie Alas.
Meanwhile, NU Bulldogs star Bobby Ray Parks Junior was left stranded in heavy traffic and was forced to take the LRT to escape flooding in Quezon City. Still he failed to reach his apartment in Manila.
“Nung gabi hindi na ko makabalik sa Manila. Kasi baha papunta run sa bahay ko. Pureza station pa lang bumalik na ko papuntang Quezon City,” said Parks, who had to sleep over in a friend’s house in Quezon city.
Also rained out on Monday were the NCAA games scheduled at The Arena in San Juan as well as the ladies pro tour tournament at Eagle Ridge in Cavite.
The penultimate day of the National Juniors chess championships at the Rizal Memorial Complex was also cancelled and rescheduled for Tuesday morning.
The UAAP also announced that junior games set for Tuesday have been moved to a later date.
