RAIN or Shine's banged-up roster stake its three-game winning streak against the NLEX Road Warriors in the PBA Philippine Cup on Tuesday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Guards Chris Tiu and Ryan Arana, both suffering hamstring injuries, are game-time decisions in the 7 p.m. match while veteran forward Jervy Cruz is set to sit out the team’s last four games due to a partially torn right calf muscle.
Still, Rain or Shine coach Yeng Guiao remained confident his team will be able to weather the seemingly never-ending spate of injuries against the Asi Taulava-led Road Warriors.
“We’re slowly hitting our stride, but we have to constantly guard against complacency,” said Guiao, whose team has won its last three games by an average of 19.6 points.
Rain or Shine’s latest victory came at the expense of Meralco, a 107-79 massacre in Davao City more than a week ago.
At 5-2 (win-loss), Rain or Shine is still in the hunt for a Top 2 place, being just a game behind second-running San Miguel Beer (6-1) and one-and-a-half games behind leader Alaska (7-1).
“The NLEX game will sustain this momentum if we can muster a win, but as always, Asi is a match-up problem especially when they hit their outside shots,” he added.
The Road Warriors (3-4) snapped out of a three-game slide last Friday after walloping winless Blackwater Elite, 104-84 in Antipolo City behind Taulava’s 24 points and 10 rebounds.
