RAIN or Shine kept Blackwater grounded after a rousing start, dealing the Elite a 107-93 beating to get back on track in the PBA Philippine Cup on Friday night at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
The Elasto Painters made up for a slow start with a strong showing in last three quarters to cruise past the Elite and register their third win in four games.
James Yap continued his road back to tip-top shape, tallying a team-high 15 points including three three-pointers, while Raymond Almazan anchored the middle with 14 points and 16 boards to lead the E-Painters, who handed the Elite their second straight loss after starting the season with two straight wins.
“We came out well in the second half,” ROS coach Caloy Garcia said after his team dished out 27 assists overall. “We’re just moving the ball better. I told them at the half that we had to rely on each other.”
The E-Painters dished out 27 assists that resulted in five players scoring in double figures, with three more contributing at least eight points each.
The Elite also put up a balanced offensive effort that saw five players, surprisingly led by Raymond Aguilar, reaching twin-digit scoring, but still found it tough to match the E-Painters’ firepower.
The Elite did go up by three points after the first quarter, but the E-Painters outscored them in the middle quarters to set up the blowout.
As expected, Yap, in his third game for his new team, played extended minutes at 25 and even gained a starting nod, repaying it with his season high output, the last two that gave RoS its biggest 99-77 halfway through the fourth.
