COMBO guard Paul Lee was just thankful he only sustained a hyper-extended knee after an awkward landing during Rain or Shine’s 79-87 loss to San Miguel Beer in the main game of the PBA Philippine Cup on Tuesday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
“Di lang maganda yung landing ko, saka syempre, first game of the season, ganito agad nangyari. Pero swerte pa rin, na-hyperextend lang,” said Lee after the game that saw him finished with only three points, two rebounds, and an assist in just under six minutes of action.
Lee, a vital piece in Gilas Pilipinas’ Fiba World Cup and Asian Games campaigns the past three months, said he will still undergo MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) just to double-check if there is any damage on his right knee.
But for the moment, Lee he said he could still bend his knee, except that he feels pain when he tries to straighten his leg.
“Una, naisip ko, tinamaan yung patella ko sa harapan, pero wala naman ako narinig na tumunog, so nagpapasalamat na rin ako ganito lang ang nangyari,” he said.
“May pain lang kapag nag-straight ako ng leg ko, so iniwasan ko ang ma-straighten ang leg ko, though kahit paano, nakakalakad pa rin ng maayos.”
Without the 6-foot Lee, the veteran Jonathan Uyloan and rookie Jericho Cruz saw more time on the floor.
Uyloan, an energetic playmaker, contributed nine points and grabbed six rebounds in 25 minutes, while Cruz added three and one rebound in his PBA debut.
