RAIN or Shine is keen to ride the momentum of a big win over grand slam champion Purefoods when it takes on Alaska in a crucial PBA Philippine Cup game on Friday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The Elasto Painters (7-2) are riding the crest of a five-game win streak which they capped with an 83-74 win over the Hotshots despite dressing just 10 healthy players last Tuesday.
“Before that game, Purefoods was on the rise. That was the time na tingin ko mahirap silang talunin,” said Guiao. “Kumpleto sila, of course, except Ian (Sangalang), but that’s still a difficult team to beat, although naipakita namin na kahit with just 10 players we can beat them.”
Now Guiao hopes his Elasto Painters can repeat the feat iagainst Alaska (8-2) in a 4:15 p.m. game where the winner will get inside track on one of two outright places in the semifinals.
“I think ang maganda sa team na ito, everybody can step up anytime you’re needed,” he said.
Alaska coach Alex Compton, on the other hand, recognizes the tough match they are facing, owing to the quality of opponents Rain or Shine has defeated the past two weeks.
“Rain or Shine? That’s huge. They are playing great. But we’ve got to move on and step in,” explained Compton, whose team blew a chance to grab an outright semis entry following its 92-101 loss to Ginebra last Tuesday.
