BRUNO Sundov, Gabe Norwood and Chris Tiu came out firing on all cylinders as Rain or Shine ended its season-long failure against Talk 'N Text in fine style, scoring a 116-85 victory on Sunday night in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The 7-foot-3 Sundov displayed his vast repertoire, shooting impeccably from the outside and scoring at will from the inside to finish with 27 points on a near-perfect 10-of-12 shooting from the field. The Croatian big man also added 16 rebounds and issued five assists.
Norwood and Tiu, on the other hand, banged in 19 and 15 points, respectively, combining for six-of-seven shooting clip from beyond the arc.
"I think Talk 'N Text just got tired. They had a hard game last Friday while we shot the ball really well today so it’s a combination of playing a hard game and us getting lucky today," said a beaming Rain or Shine coach Yeng Guiao.
"We played really good defense, holding them to just 32.6 percent in the game."
The win vaulted Rain or Shine back to a share of the lead with idle Alaska on identical 7-3 records while the Tropang Texters, who are coming off an emotional 93-85 overtime win against the Petron Boosters on Friday, fell into a four-way tie for fourth to seventh places with Barangay Ginebra, San Mig Coffee and Air21 at 5-5.
Talk ‘N Text started out flat after missing its first 11 field goals to trail, 2-18. Rain or Shine refused to let up from there as its lead ballooned to 103-67 midway in the fourth period on Norwood’s fourth and final three-point shot of the game.
The victory was a sweet payback for Rain or Shine, which snapped a six-game losing skid to Talk ‘N Text this season. The Elasto Painters were swept by the Tropang Texters during the PBA Philippine Cup a few months back, 4-0 and bowed, 76-86, during their first-round meeting in the mid-season conference.
