ANTIPOLO – Rain or Shine pounced on a demoralized Alaska, hammering out a 112-82 demolition to stay alive in the race for a Top Four finish in the PBA Governors’ Cup on Wednesday night at the Ynares Center.

Using it as a virtual workout, the playoffs-bound Elasto Painters broke the game wide open in the second quarter on the way to a blowout victory against an Aces team that’s already eliminated.

J’Nathan Bullock was steady as usual, while Jericho Cruz and Beau Belga provided the spark off the bench for the E-Painters, who improved to a 6-4 win-loss record to climb to sixth spot.

The Aces, who sat Calvin Abueva and Sonny Thoss, finished their disappointing campaign at 3-8 as they failed to give Dondon Hontiveros and Tony dela Cruz a fitting sendoff in their final game for the team.

“We needed a game like this going into our final game in the eliminations,” ROS coach Caloy Garcia said. “I just told the players that we can’t just come and play alaska. We’re also lucky that Thoss and Calvin didn’t play today.”

Bullock sparked the rout, scoring eight of his team-high 14 points in the second quarter where the E-Painters outscored the Aces, 34-18.

Cruz took over in third quarter, firing all but two of his 12 points as the E-Painters maintained the sizeable cushion that ballooned to 37 points, 98-61, following a Ronnie Matias jumper early in the fourth quarter.

Buck Henton led the Aces with 20 points, seven boards, and three blocks in a losing effort.

    The scores:

    ROS 112 – Bullock 14, Cruz 12, Belga 12, Trollano 11, Tiu 9, Robles 9, Borboran 9, Almazan 7, Yap 6, Ahanmisi 5, Matias 4, King 4, Daquioag 4, Norwood 3, Maiquez 3, Ponferada 0
