HAS Rain or Shine found an unofficial ‘sister team’ in Converge?
Elasto Painters coach Yeng Guiao showed his respect to the FiberXers management, saying Rain or Shine would've cheered Converge on had it made the semifinals of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
Converge owner Dennis Uy, from Angeles City, and deputy coach Gov. Dennis ‘Delta’ Pineda are of course well-known kabalens of Guiao.

“Magkakaibigan kami, iisang grupo lang kami sa Pampanga,” disclosed Guiao. “Kapag nag-uusap nga kami ‘sana sa finals na tayo nagkita’ or ‘sa semifinals man lang.’ Ganun na ang usapan namin.”
Rain or Shine proved steadier than Converge in the deciding Game 3 of their quarterfinals series, 112-103, in a battle between two independent teams that take pride to a certain degree of their Kapampangan roots.
“Masyado kaming maagang nagkita,” shared Guiao of the quarterfinal pairing between his No. 6 seeded team and the third-seeded FiberXers.
But even in the event the Elasto Painters lost the series, Guiao said he and his team would've rooted for Converge to make it all the way.
“Ako, kung kami natalo, okay lang sa akin na sila ang pumasok kasi they’ll represent the independent teams,” said the 65-year-old mentor.
“We will be cheering for each other. Kung sila ang pumasok, we will cheer for them in the long term, or in the semifinals or even in the finals kung papasok sila.”
Guiao expects it to be tit for tat thing now that the Elasto Painters made it to the semis for the third straight conference.
“I think it’s the same thing kung pumasok kami sa semis, I think they’ll be rooting for us kasi yun din ang gagawin namin kapag sila naman ang pumasok,” he said.
With TNT standing in the way of Rain or Shine in the semifinals, Converge could be driven to cheer on the Elasto Painters.
Remember, Converge and TNT are corporate rivals.
