Rain or Shine faces Blackwater in battle of Governors' Cup tail-enders

    Jun 3, 2015

COACH Yeng Guiao believes Rain or Shine can still climb the standings and improve its chances of making the PBA Governors Cup playoffs, but  winning has to start on Wednesday when the Painters Rain clash with Blackwater Elite in a battle of the tail-enders at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay.

“I hope it’s not too late though we can still save ourselves from being eliminated,” said Guiao, whose team failed to sustain its strong first half effort to succumb to surprise leader Barako Bull, 112-103 on Sunday.

Rain or Shine holds a 1-4 win-loss card and sit just a notch above cellar-dwelling Blackwater, which has a 1-5 record.

“I feel that if we’re just able to weather the storm, even if we’re in the lower four of the top eight, we will still have a chance to upset the upper teams in the playoffs.”

Game time is at 4:15 p.m.

Import Wendell McKines has been producing the numbers Guiao wants to see every game day as he averages 29.4 points, 13.6 rebounds and 1.8 blocks.

But the locals will have to do their own share, too since only combo guard Paul Lee has scored consistently in double figures for Rain or Shine with a 14-point average, along with 4.2 rebounds and 4.2 assists this conference.

Both teams are on a two-game slide. The Elite’s lone victory this conference came at the expense of Barangay Ginebra Kings two weeks ago in Dipolog City.

Marcus Douthit, Blackwater’s hardworking import with averages of 21.3 points and 14 rebounds per game, hopes to get a send-off victory before leaving on Saturday for Singapore to reinforce Sinag national team in the Southeast Asian Games.
