WITH the tension-filled match versus Barangay Ginebra now behind them, Rain or Shine refocuses on its chase for one of the top two berths when it takes on lightweight Blackwater in the opening match of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup on Friday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Big men Beau Belga and Raymond Almazan are coming off a tumultuous verbal spat with Ginebra fans during Rain or Shine’s 82-79 win over the league’s most popular squad on Sunday.

Both were assessed a combined fine of P110,000 for unsportsmanlike behavior.

On the other hand, coach Yeng Guiao was slapped a separate P22,400 for his endgame spat with former Rain or Shine import Arizona Reid in the Elasto Painters’ 129-114 defeat to the San Miguel Beermen last week.

“We can’t take them (Elite) lightly,” said Guiao, whose team winds up its elimination-round schedule against KIA Motors on Sunday.

In case a three-way ensues among Rain or Shine, Talk ‘N Text and Purefoods Star at 8-3, the Hotshots will more likely drop out of the top two due to an inferior quotient.

However, Guiao isn’t thinking too far ahead at this point.

“We just have to win all our remaining games,” he added.

Meantime, Blackwater, currently at last place with its 2-7 record, will try to close out its campaign this conference by winning its last two games.

The Elite face the Meralco Bolts next week for their last game for the mid-season conference.

Blackwater’s two victories in the import-spiced conference came at the expense of San Miguel and KIA.
