A FIRED-UP Rain or Shine side finally regained its deadly touch from the three-point zone to deal KIA Motors a knockout blow, 117-88 in the PBA Philippine Cup on Wednesday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Five days after shooting bricks from the three-point arc in a come-from-behind 82-75 win over newcomer Blackwater, Rain or Shine peppered KIA with 10 three-pointers in wire-to-wire victory over the hapless expansion team.
Combo guard Paul Lee returned from a one-game injury absence to preside over the ugly rout, firing a game-high 22 points built around four three-pointers.
Big man Beau Belga contributed 16 points while Tyrone Tang added 15, spiked by four three-point conversions that enabled Rain or Shine to improve to 2-1 (win-loss) in the season-opening conference.
“We started the conference slow in our first two games. But we’re just trying to regain our chemistry and start to regain our confidence,” said Rain or Shine coach Yeng Guiao.
“But this is the best way to do it, I guess, because we played with a lot of energy all throughout the game."
All but one of the players fielded in by Guiao scored for the Painters, who shot a season-high 59 percent from the field (41-of-69) after going 0-for-25 from the three-point zone against Blackwater.
In contrast, KIA made just 38 percent (26-of-65) of its shots.
Playing coach Manny Pacquiao again made a long-distance call from General Santos City before the game in a bid to fire up the Sorento, who are coming off an 87-55 beating at the hands of Barangay Ginebra last weekend.
That obviously didn't help.
Reil Cervantes topscored with 18 points and eight rebounds while Alvin Padilla added 17 for the Sorento, who have suffered lopsided losses after an opening-day win over Blackwater.
