RAIN or Shine leaned on Ange Kouame's inside presence and Anton Assitio's clutch three pointer to outlast Iran in double overtime, 98-90, for its breakthrough win in the 42nd Jones Cup.

The 6-foot-10 Kouame sparked a 10-2 blast by the Elasto Painters in the stretch run of the second extra period, which Asistio highlighted by burying a basket from way beyond the three-point arc.

The run allowed Rain or Shine to finally pull away from the Iranians and notch a first ever win in the tournament after losing its first four outings at the Taipei Heping Gymnasium.

Kouame was a force for the Elasto Painters in the two extra period where he scored 14 of his game-high 20 points. The naturalized player from Ivory Coast also added nine rebounds and nine block shots.

It appeared Rain or Shine was about to falter anew like it did against United Arab Emirates and Qatar in the last two days after squandering a 72-58 fourth quarter lead as Iran, which Gilas Pilipinas beat twice in the recent Heyuan WUS International Basketball Tournament in China, forged overtime at 74-all behind a back-breaking 16-2 run.

But Kouame came through and scored all of the Elasto Painters' output in the first extra period, before getting help in the second overtime from Assistio and Leonard Santillan, whose completed three-point play sealed the deal for the team.

Andrei Caracut also gave Rain or Shine a big lift with 19 points, while Santillan added 17. The two incidentally, was responsible for giving the team that 14-points lead in the final period.

The morale-boosting win should prepped up the Elasto Painters going to their game against Korean Basketball League (KBL) champion Anyang KGC.

The Korean side is currently tied with Chinese Taipei-B at third to fourth place with similar 2-1 slates.

The Iranians (1-3) got 16 points from Amir Azari and 15 each from Ali Reza Sharifi and Amir Yazarloo.
