RAIN or Shine gave coach Jeff Cariaso a rude reception in the PBA On Tour following a 131-108 blowout win against Blackwater at the FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan.
The Elasto Painters blew the game apart in the third quarter when they scored 39 big points for a 103-87 lead entering the fourth.
Leonard Santillan had a team-high 24 points and Andrei Caracut with 18 as Rain or Shine improved to 8-2 overall in the return of coach Yeng Guiao from a brief vacation.
Santillan scored 14 of his points during that third quarter breakaway as he teamed up with Mamuyac, Clarito, and Anton Assistio.
Cariaso debut spoiled
The loss snapped Blackwater's three-game winning run for a 6-4 card and spoiled the preseason debut of Cariaso for the Bossing.
Guiao was satisfied with the Rain or Shine win, noting the 40 assists dished out by the team along with just 12 turnovers.
"Walang coach na hindi matutuwa sa 40 assists. And then we only had 12 turnovers. Maganda yung assist-to-turnover ratio namin. That means they're (Elasto Painters) playing smarter, that means you make the game easier. You have 40 assists so that means you make the game easier," said the Rain or Shine coach.
"It's not only easier. The game looks more beautiful when you're passing the ball."
Big man Beau Belga led Rain or Shine in the assist department with 10 aside from contributing eight points and eight rebounds.
Gian Mamuyac added 17, while Shaun Ildefonso (12), Jhonard Clarito (11), and Nick Demusis were the other players in double figures for the Elasto Painters.
RK Ilagan finished with 18 points for Blackwater, which also got 17 from Mike Digregorio, 15 from Troy Rosario, and 14 each from Rashawn McCarthy and Ato Ular, who likewise grabbed 11 rebounds.
