TODD Purves has yet to reach a deal with San Miguel Corp. basketball officials in talks to take on a consultant's role with Petron, sources said.

Reports reaching Spin.ph said the former coach of ABL team Indonesia Warriors arrived in the country early Thursday morning and immediately met with San Miguel officials at the company's headquarters in Ortigas.

Spin.ph has reported that SMC officials are looking to appoint Purves as an 'active' consultant at Petron, with Gee Abanilla set to take over the head-coaching job from Olsen Racela.

Racela will in turn be moved to San Mig Coffee to take on a role as one of Tim Cone's assistants.

The Petron offer is far better than what Purves received from the Indonesia Warriors, which sources said amounted to more than US$6,000 along with housing and transportation allowance.

Sources said one major stumbling block in the negotiations is that Purves is looking to sign a two-year contract while the Boosters have laid down a one-year deal for the American coach.

“He wants a two-year contract, that’s the last remaining unresolved part of the negotiations,” said a source close to Purves.

It was also relayed to Spin.ph that SMC is offering an NBA-type of contract that guarantees Purves three months' worth of his salary if his employment is terminated prematurely.

The 43-year-old had previously worked as video coordinator and advance scout for the Sacramento Kings before he joined the Warriors, who he led to the ABL championship last season while winning Coach of the Year honors.

He currently works as a scout for the Memphis Grizzlies and is set to join the ballclub for a month as a coach in the NBA Summer League.

Sources said Purves also has a standing offer to coach in South America.
