TALK ‘N Text tries to formally book a spot in the top six of the PBA Philippine Cup eliminations when it tangles with defending champion Purefoods in Wednesday’s main game at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.

The Tropang Texters and Hotshots collide at 7 p.m.

Talk N Text rolled past winless Blackwater last weekend, 90-80, during their Petron Saturday Special road game in Binan, Laguna to improve to a 6-3 record for solo fourth place.

Coach Jong Uichico expects a defensive battle against Purefoods, which is coming off an 83-74 loss to Rain or Shine that snapped its four-game winning run and fell to a 5-4 slate.

Uichico hopes to see his team return to its old, defensive mode as the Tropang Texters had resorted at outscoring their opponents than defend well lately.

Statistically, Talk ‘N Text held its opponents to just 70 points during its three-game winning streak midway through the All-Filipino conference.

But in the team’s last two victories, Talk ‘N Text has yielded 93 points while averaging 106 points on offense.

On the other hand, Purefoods coach Tim Cone expects improvement on the Hotshots’ execution, especially after seeing his team turn the ball over 18 times in its loss to the Elasto Painters.

Rain or Shine took advantage of the Hotshots’ turnovers by outscoring the reigning champions, 18-4.

A victory by the Hotshots will put them closer to a spot in the `Magic Six’, which guarantees a twice-to-beat advantage in the playoff.

Purefoods is currently at sixth spot, half a game ahead of GlobalPort (5-5) and one full game ahead of Meralco (4-5).
