PUREFOODS leaned on its torrid shooting in the first half to beat Barako Bull, 99-83, on Tuesday at the Cuneta Astrodome and clinch the No. 7 seeding in the PBA Philippine Cup playoffs.

The Hotshots converted 63 percent of their shots in the first two quarters, enough to build a sizeable gap between them and the Energy on the way to ending a two-game losing skid prior to the playoffs.

Purefoods, which outscored Barako Bull, 25-15, in the second quarter to post a 52-38 lead at halftime, will now wait for the result of the GlobalPort-Meralco match to know which team it will face in the playoffs.

Under the tiebreaking quotient system, the grand slam champion will face Meralco with a Bolts victory and Barangay Ginebra with a GlobalPort win, both with twice-to-beat disadvantage in the playoffs.

“Bottom line is, that’s where we are. Whether it's Ginebra or Meralco, we’ll try to win one game first and see what happens,” Cone said.

Barako Bull fell to ninth spot with a 4-7 win-loss record and will face Alaska in the quarterfinals.

Purefoods coach Tim Cone revealed his dislike for the current format wherein quotients decide the seedings.

“I think it’s a disservice to teams that get knocked out because of the quotient,” said Cone.
